Stalwart Library

The College Library is a place of knowledge, exploration, and academic excellence. It serves as a vital resource for students, faculty, and researchers, providing access to a vast collection of scholarly materials that support education, research, and intellectual growth. In an academic library, one can find an array of resources, from textbooks and research journals to databases and digital archives, all designed to assist in the pursuit of knowledge. It is also a space for critical thinking and collaboration, offering quiet study areas, group workspaces, and access to cutting-edge technology that facilitates learning. More than just a repository of books, an academic library fosters an environment of inquiry and discovery, encouraging students and scholars to engage deeply with ideas, conduct research, and contribute to the body of knowledge in their fields. ON-BOOK HOLDINGS: The Sulu State College (SSC) Stalwart Library serves as the primary information and learning resource center of the College. It supports the institution's mandate in instruction, research, extension, and production by providing access to a well-organized, updated, and relevant collection of information resources in various formats. The Library is committed to the continuous selection, evaluation, and acquisition of materials that align with the requirements of the academic programs and the needs of the learning community. Guided by quality assurance standards, the Stalwart Library ensures that its resources, services, and facilities effectively contribute to the attainment of institutional outcomes and the realization of the College's vision, mission, goals, and objectives.

SULU STATE COLLEGE STALWART LIBRARY – The Stalwart Library is a two-storey structure strategically located at the heart of the College campus, providing a conducive, comfortable, and accessible environment for learning and research. The library occupies a total floor area of 1,163.56 square meters, with 633.92 square meters on the first floor and 529.64 square meters on the second floor. It has a total seating capacity of 605, equivalent to 9.03% of the total enrollment of 6,700 students, which is above the 5% minimum requirement set by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

The library is administered and supervised by Ms. Surfina M. Caluang, a full-time Head Librarian holding a Master's Degree in Library and Information Science, and a Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) License No. 0007647, valid until June 15, 2027. She has 19 years of professional experience in the field of library and information services, demonstrating extensive expertise in academic library administration, resource management, and user services.

SULU STATE COLLEGE STALWART LIBRARY – The Stalwart Library, being the sole academic library of Sulu State College, offers both in-person and online library services to cater to the information and research needs of students, faculty, and staff from undergraduate and graduate programs. The Library maintains a core collection of 14,200 volumes, consisting of 12,392 titles, of which 6,044 are of recent copyright or edition. The Filipiniana Collection comprises 2,977 volumes, representing 29% of the total holdings.

To complement its print collection, the Library provides access to a wide range of electronic and digital resources through its online subscriptions such as the Philippine E-Journals (PEJ) and Gale Databases, which support academic and research needs across all disciplines. The Library also provides access to 14,797 electronic journals for academic use, 231 e-magazines, and 71,299 e-news sources, ensuring the continuous availability of up-to-date information and scholarly resources. These services are designed to strengthen teaching, learning, and research engagements and to support the effective implementation of the College's curricular programs.

ON-LIBRARY SERVICES – The Sulu State College Stalwart Library, being the main library of the College, provides its patrons with two (2) categories of services: (a) in-person services and (b) online services.

For in-person services, the Library offers the following:
(1) Reference and Information Services,
(2) Library Instructional Services (LIS),
(3) Current Awareness Services,
(4) Internet and Computer Access Services,
(5) Circulation and Lending Services, and
(6) Research and Information Assistance.

For online services, the Stalwart Library provides virtual reference assistance and access to subscribed and open-access electronic resources through platforms such as the Philippine E-Journals (PEJ) and Gale Databases. These services ensure that users can access quality information resources anytime and anywhere, supporting the College's commitment to advancing teaching, learning, and research.

Student Lounge (Learning Commons)

The outdoor student lounge near the library is a dedicated space designed for both leisure and academic purposes with an area of 181.39 sqm. It features comfortable seating, shaded areas, and greenery, creating a relaxed atmosphere for students to unwind, socialize, or engage in casual study sessions. The lounge serves as a hub for collaborative learning, group discussions, and individual reading while also providing a refreshing environment for breaks between classes.

E-Learning Library

The E-Learning Library of Sulu State College serves as a dynamic digital platform that provides students, faculty, and researchers with easy access to academic resources, online databases, and learning materials anytime and anywhere. It supports flexible and independent learning by integrating technology with education, enabling users to explore e-books, journals, and multimedia content that enhance research and instruction. The library aims to foster a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and knowledge sharing within the academic community.

iLAB

Sulu State College's iLAB is located at the Digital Transformation Office. It serves as an innovation laboratory dedicated to advancing global education and digital citizenship. Designed to foster creativity and technological proficiency, the lab is equipped with MacBooks to support hands-on learning and research. With a capacity to accommodate 31 students at a time, iLAB provides a collaborative space for exploring digital solutions and educational advancements. The facility is managed by an officer-in-charge, ensuring smooth operations and an engaging learning environment for students.

Tech4Ed Center

The Tech4Ed Center at Sulu State College is a learning hub that focuses on improving digital literacy and skills, especially for the indigenous communities of Sulu. In partnership with the Department of Information, Communications and Technology Sulu, the center offers access to technology-driven programs, online resources, and educational tools. While it primarily helps indigenous people, it also supports Sulu State College students in enhancing their digital skills. The center aims to bridge the digital divide, providing opportunities for better education and socioeconomic growth, and helping both communities and students thrive in the modern digital world.

Book Haven

Book Haven is an Open Learning Resource established by Sulu State College, dedicated solely to providing printed educational materials for students. This initiative offers a wide selection of textbooks, reference books, and study guides, all available in physical format. By focusing on printed resources, Book Haven ensures that students have direct access to essential learning materials, even in areas with limited digital connectivity. The center aims to support academic success by making these resources readily available, helping students deepen their knowledge and excel in their studies. Book Haven is an invaluable tool for those seeking a reliable source of printed educational content to enhance their learning experience.

SSC Covered Court

The SSC Covered Court is a big open space with a roof, covering 638.28 square meters. It is located beside the SSC Hostel and is used for many activities. Students come here for departmental events, PE (Path-Fit) classes, and sports training. It is also where athletes practice and play basketball and other college sports.

Multimedia Bldg. - Auditorium

The Sulu State College Multimedia Center, located beside the SSC Library, is a modern facility designed for presentations, conferences, and creative productions. Covering an area of 367.11 square meters, it features a spacious auditorium with a blue stage and a large white projection wall, creating an engaging and immersive experience for the audience. This venue is perfect for lectures, film screenings, and digital learning activities, providing students and teachers with a high-quality space for learning and collaboration. With a seating capacity of 100, the center has comfortable, tiered seating, ensuring that everyone has a clear view of the stage. Its well-lit and well-equipped design makes it ideal for both academic and professional gatherings. As a hub for learning and creativity, the Multimedia Center enhances the college's ability to host educational and cultural events in a dynamic environment.

Center for Culture and Arts Bldg. - Auditorium

The SSC Center for Culture and Arts, located at the SSC Main Campus, serves as a hub for preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of Sulu and the Tausug people. Its area 559.05 sqm that provides a space for students and the community to engage in music, dance, theater, and visual arts, fostering artistic expression and cultural appreciation. Designed like a small theater, the center features a stage, a large LED TV, a full sound system, and 152 chairs for guests. It includes an office for the Cultural Director, three comfort rooms (for girls, boys, and common use), and a utility personnel to maintain cleanliness. At the back, two storage rooms house props, costumes, and equipment, ensuring an organized space for performances and events.

Nursing Laboratory

The Nursing Simulation Laboratory, covering 227.71 square meters, is located beside the School of Nursing Laboratory. It is a state-of-the-art facility designed to enhance nursing education through hands-on training and realistic medical simulations. The lab is equipped with high- and low-fidelity patient simulators, anatomical models, and advanced medical equipment to help students develop essential nursing skills in a controlled environment.

The simulation hospital within the lab replicates a real healthcare setting, featuring a fully functional nurse's station, Operating Room, Delivery Room, Medical Ward, Surgical Ward, OB, Pediatric, and Orthopedic Ward. It includes crash and medication carts, suction machines, ECG, and a defibrillator to create lifelike scenarios. High-end mannequins are available for tracheotomy care, NGT insertion and feeding, IV access, catheterization, and enema procedures, allowing students to practice critical medical skills. The Nursing Skills Laboratory operates on a scheduled basis, accommodating students for skills practice. It is managed by one in-charge, with clinical instructors providing one-on-one guidance as students work through procedures using mannequins. Skills modules and checklists are provided to ensure students master both basic and advanced nursing techniques, effectively preparing them for professional practice.

Anatomy Room

The anatomy laboratory for nursing use is a dedicated space where nursing students engage in hands-on learning to better understand the human body's structure and functions. It typically features detailed anatomical models that allow students to explore various body systems, organs, tissues, and structures in a controlled, educational environment. The lab is designed to enhance students' knowledge of human anatomy, which is essential for accurate assessment, diagnosis, and effective nursing care.

Criminology Laboratory

The Criminology Specialized Laboratory is designed to provide criminology students with hands-on training in various fields of forensic science and crime scene investigation. It is a controlled environment where students can develop practical skills in forensic photography, fingerprint examination, ballistics examination, polygraphy, questioned documents examination, and forensic chemistry and toxicology. The laboratory also enhances students' competency in crime detection, evidence collection, and case analysis, preparing them for their careers in law enforcement. The Criminology Specialized Laboratory is specifically utilized by all Criminology students and faculty and is managed and monitored by a qualified laboratory custodian.

Demo Farm

The Greenhouse of Sulu State College School of Agriculture is a 330 square-meter facility designed to support plant nursery and propagation, potting, and seedbed/germination activities. It serves as a learning laboratory where students gain hands-on experience in plant cultivation, nursery management, and sustainable agricultural practices. The facility provides an ideal environment for growing healthy seedlings, improving plant propagation techniques, and enhancing research on crop production. Additionally, it features a dedicated wash area to ensure proper handling and sanitation of materials. This greenhouse plays a crucial role in agricultural education and innovation, equipping students with the necessary skills for modern and sustainable farming.

MicroMesh

The MESH Laboratory serves as a dynamic learning space designed to enhance students' hands-on experience and technical proficiency in computing and engineering. Equipped with modern computer units and industry-standard software, the laboratory supports a wide range of academic and practical applications, including computer programming, software development, networking, and systems analysis. Under the supervision of a designated laboratory in-charge, the MESH Lab is efficiently managed to ensure optimal functionality, maintenance, and technical support—providing an environment that fosters innovation, collaboration, and the continuous development of technological competencies among students of the School of Computer Engineering.

Corecraft Laboratory

The CoreCraft Laboratory serves as a specialized facility dedicated to advancing students' technical expertise and practical skills in computer engineering. It provides an interactive environment equipped with high-performance computers, development tools, and learning resources that support a wide range of activities in programming, hardware interfacing, circuit design, and system development. Managed by a qualified laboratory in-charge, the CoreCraft Lab ensures efficient operation, maintenance, and technical assistance—promoting innovation, problem-solving, and hands-on learning essential for developing competent and industry-ready computer engineers.

SSC Hostel

The SSC Hostel offers comfortable and well-equipped accommodations for guests, students, and visitors of Sulu State College with an area of 1560 sqm. It features 12 standard rooms, each furnished with twin beds for two occupants, and four VIP rooms with queen beds for added comfort. Additionally, the hostel includes 10 dormitory-style rooms, each accommodating up to six individuals, making it an ideal lodging option for groups and extended stays. Beyond accommodations, the hostel serves as a hands-on training and laboratory facility for students enrolled in all programs, providing academic learning supports.

Production Laboratory

The Production Laboratory, located beside the College of Business Administration Building, is a 121.6-square-meter facility designed for food production and processing. It is equipped with specialized machinery for producing rice monggo curls and cereals, ensuring efficient and high-quality production. The main goal of the laboratory is to develop and manufacture rice monggo curls, providing hands-on experience for students while supporting product innovation. This facility plays a vital role in enhancing food production skills and contributing to the college's efforts in entrepreneurship and industry development.

Speech Laboratory

The Speech Laboratory is a modern facility equipped with 40 individual student booths, each fitted with an audio box and headphones, designed to enhance the communication skills of students in BA English Language Studies, and Bachelor of Secondary Education in English programs. It provides interactive learning tools for pronunciation, speech analysis, and real-time feedback, helping students develop clear and confident verbal communication. This lab supports academic growth by refining public speaking, teaching methodologies, and historical discourse, preparing future educators and historians for professional success. Through practical training and immersive exercises, the Speech Laboratory ensures students are well-equipped for careers in education, research, and communication.

Computer Laboratory (CS, IT and IS)

The College of Computing Studies and Engineering houses seven Computer Laboratories, each with a total area of 400 square meters. These labs are essential for hands-on learning and technical training, providing students with access to modern computing facilities. Each laboratory is equipped with its own set of computer units, with a total of 191 computers across all labs. To ensure smooth operations and technical assistance, each lab is managed by one in-charge. These laboratories support computer programming, software development, networking, and other computing-related courses, enhancing students' skills and preparing them for careers in technology and engineering.

Computer Laboratory (CPE)

The School of Computer Engineering maintains one Computer Laboratory with a total area of 45.5 square meters. This laboratory serves as a vital facility for hands-on learning and technical training, providing students with access to modern computing equipment and resources. It is equipped with a sufficient number of computer units to support various academic and practical activities in computer programming, software development, networking, and other computing-related courses. The laboratory is managed by a designated in-charge who ensures its efficient operation, maintenance, and technical support, fostering a conducive environment for developing students' competencies in technology and engineering.

Science Laboratory

The Science Laboratory at Sulu State College is a state-of-the-art facility designed to support hands-on learning and scientific exploration. Divided into three specialized laboratories—Chemistry, Physics, and Biology—each spanning 445.62 square meters, the facility provides students with the necessary tools and equipment to conduct experiments, explore scientific principles, and enhance their practical knowledge in various fields of science. Each laboratory is managed by a laboratory custodian and staff, ensuring proper maintenance, organization, and safety. The Chemistry Lab focuses on chemical reactions and molecular structures, featuring Bunsen burners, glassware, and safety equipment. The Physics Lab allows students to study mechanics, thermodynamics, and electromagnetism, equipped with microscopes, thermometers, power supplies, and pulleys. The Biology Lab is dedicated to the study of living organisms and cellular structures, with microscopes, slides, petri dishes, and dissection kits. A centralized stockroom serves as the main storage area, securely housing chemicals, tools, and materials needed for experiments. Each lab accommodates 35 to 40 students per session, providing ample space for safe and efficient learning.

Audio Visual Room (College of Computing Studies)

The audio-visual resources at Sulu State College are designed to enhance the learning experience by integrating both sound and visual elements. These resources include multimedia tools such as videos, presentations, and educational films, all aimed at making learning more engaging and interactive. The audio-visual materials help students better understand complex concepts through visual aids and auditory explanations, catering to different learning styles. Whether for lectures, tutorials, or workshops, these resources support various subjects, providing a dynamic way to absorb information and encourage active participation in the learning process. Ampitheatre Room

The Florence Hall or the Nursing Amphitheater Audio-Visual Room at Sulu State College School of Nursing is a state-of-the-art facility designed to enhance the learning experience for nursing students. Spanning 80.65 square meters, this modern amphitheater is equipped with advanced audio-visual technology, including high-definition projectors, surround sound systems, and interactive digital displays, providing an engaging and immersive educational environment. The tiered seating arrangement ensures clear visibility for all students, making it an ideal space for lectures, workshops, multimedia presentations, and virtual simulations. This facility supports various teaching methods, combining traditional instruction with interactive learning to prepare students for real-world nursing challenges.
