Sulu State University (SSU) conducted its First Graduate School Hooding Ceremony and Conferral of Diplomas for the Class of 2026 on June 4, 2026, at the SSU Multi-Purpose Gymnasium, Walled City, Jolo, Sulu.

Carrying the theme “Embracing Tradition, Charting the Future,” the ceremony honored the academic achievements, perseverance, and scholarly excellence of the graduates of the School of Graduate Studies. The event formally recognized candidates who successfully completed various doctoral and master's degree programs offered by the University.

Graduates were conferred degrees from the Doctor of Philosophy major in English Language Teaching, Doctor of Education major in Educational Management, and Doctor in Public Administration programs. Master's degree recipients included graduates from Master of Arts in Education major in Educational Administration, Master in Information Technology, Master of Arts in Nursing, Master of Arts in Teaching Mathematics, Master of Arts in Social Science, Master of Arts in Language Teaching-English, Master of Arts in Language Teaching-Filipino, Master in Public Administration, and Master in Business Administration.

The ceremony commenced with a solemn academic procession led by the marshals, followed by the entrance of the color guards, graduating candidates and their families, faculty and staff of the School of Graduate Studies, department heads, university officials, vice presidents, the University President, and the guest speaker.

The program formally opened with an invocation, followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and the SSU Hymn.

Delivering the welcome remarks, Prof. Nelson U. Julhamid, Ph.D., Vice President for Administration and Finance, extended his congratulations to the graduates and acknowledged the collective efforts of faculty members, families, and mentors who contributed to their academic success.

A message of inspiration was delivered by Prof. Charisma S. Ututalum, CESE, University President, who commended the graduates for their dedication to advanced learning and encouraged them to become transformative leaders and lifelong learners committed to serving their communities and professions.

One of the highlights of the ceremony was the keynote address delivered by Dr. Lilian A. De Las Llagas, former Commissioner of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and retired professor of the University of the Philippines Manila.

The ceremony also featured the formal Hooding Ceremony, a longstanding academic tradition symbolizing the successful completion of advanced studies and the transition of graduates into a community of scholars and professionals. This was followed by the Conferral of Diplomas, recognizing the graduates' academic accomplishments and readiness to contribute meaningfully to their respective fields.

A tribute song added a heartfelt and celebratory atmosphere to the occasion, honoring the dedication and sacrifices of the graduates throughout their academic journey.

During the program, a Plaque of Appreciation was presented to Prof. Charisma S. Ututalum, CESE, with the assistance of Prof. Massome S. Asiri, DPA, Dean of the School of Graduate Studies, in recognition of her steadfast leadership and invaluable support in advancing graduate education at the University.

The ceremony concluded with closing remarks from Prof. Masnona S. Asiri, DPA, who expressed gratitude to the graduates, families, faculty members, university officials, and guests for their unwavering support in making the occasion a success.

The event was hosted by Asst. Prof. Maiden A. Antao, MA-Math, and Asst. Prof. Ricky S. Morales Jr., MA-Math, who served as masters of ceremony.

The First Graduate School Hooding Ceremony and Conferral of Diplomas marked a significant occasion for the University, celebrating a new generation of scholars, professionals, and leaders prepared to shape the future while upholding the values and traditions of Sulu State University.
